ABSTRACT
80 women who would be operated abdominally for gynecologic indications was separated into two groups. The first group was given a third generation cephalosporin intravenously one hour before operation while the second group was treated as control. It was found no statistical difference between the two groups concerning postoperative febrile morbidity. The incidence of minor infective symptoms at the incision site was lower in antibiotic treated group. It was concluded that prophylactic antibiotic treatemnt has no effect for the prevention of postoperative febrile morbidity in gynecological abdominal operations.
