ABSTRACT
In this study, the retrospective evaluation of transvaginal sonographic findings in 33 surgically proven ectopic pregnancies are presented. The sonographic findings detected in patients with ectopic pregnancies which further grouped as clinically stable or nonstable according to their hemodynamic conditions at the time of diagnosis and ruptured tubal, nonruptured tubal, tubal abortion and ovarian ectopic pregnancy according to their surgical findings were correlated. An extrauterine located gestational sac (tubal ring) without a fetal echo within the sac was detected in 16 cases (48.4%); there was a fetal echo within the sac in additional 3 cases (9%), but in none of them a fetal cardiac motion was detected. The sonographic findings, like fluid in Douglas pouch and adnexal mass, which are not specific to ectopic pregnancy, were most frequently encountered in clinically non-stable patients which tubal rupture has occured.
